Carthage College and Illinois Wesleyan University have been recognized in the D3hoops.com preseason national rankings, released Wednesday. Carthage is ranked eighth while Illinois Wesleyan holds the 16th spot.

Last season, Carthage finished with a 21-7 record and claimed the outright College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) title for the first time since 2010. The Firebirds also received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and earned 396 points in this year's preseason poll.

Illinois Wesleyan, which captured last season’s CCIW Tournament championship, ended their previous campaign with a 24-6 record. The Titans accumulated 227 points in the latest poll after advancing to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament.

Trinity (Connecticut) leads the D3hoops.com preseason poll as number one, having received 23 out of 25 first-place votes. Randolph-Macon ranks second, followed by Emory, Tufts, and Washington University in St. Louis.
