North Park University’s Nico Chavez and Wheaton College’s Jack Krahel have been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes of the Week. The announcement was made Tuesday.
Chavez, a junior from Des Plaines, Illinois, scored three goals over two matches for North Park. He found the net in a 3-2 loss to nationally ranked Chicago last Wednesday and scored both goals in North Park’s 2-1 comeback win against Carroll on Saturday.
Krahel, who is from Mableton, Georgia, earned the league’s weekly defensive honor for the third week in a row. He played all 180 minutes across two matches for Wheaton and did not allow a goal. Krahel made six saves in a 1-0 victory over Carthage and set a career high with 10 saves during a 4-0 win against Millikin.
Krahel has now recorded three consecutive shutouts and leads the conference with seven clean sheets this season. He also holds the top spot in goals-against average (.333) and save percentage (.944) among CCIW goalkeepers during conference play.
The CCIW continues to recognize student-athletes weekly for their performances throughout the men’s soccer season. Recent offensive honorees include Joseph Sargent of North Central (Oct. 14 and Oct. 7), Javi Landin of Augustana (Sept. 30), Alexander Gahm of North Park (Sept. 23), Vidar Rydell of North Park (Sept. 16), Mathias Soerum of North Park (Sept. 9), and Luke Vander Kolk of Wheaton (Sept. 2).
