Illinois Wesleyan University football players Dermot Smyth and Matt Worthington, along with Augustana College’s Toby Splitt, have been recognized as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Student-Athletes of the Week.

Smyth received offensive honors after leading Illinois Wesleyan to a 49-27 victory over Millikin. The junior quarterback from Chicago completed 21 of 31 passes for a career-high 383 yards and matched his personal best with five touchdown passes. He also contributed a one-yard rushing touchdown and gained 12 yards on the ground. Smyth’s passing total was the second-highest in the conference this season and the top mark in any CCIW game so far. This performance marked his third consecutive game surpassing 300 passing yards.

On defense, Splitt earned recognition for his performance in Augustana’s 31-24 win against Carroll. The senior from Cary, Illinois, recorded 12 tackles—eight unassisted—and made an interception. Splitt currently leads the CCIW in tackles per game with an average of 11.2.

Worthington was honored for his special teams play at Millikin. The sophomore punter averaged 50.7 yards on three punts, including a career-long kick of 71 yards that ranks as the second-longest in the conference this season and ties for fifth all-time at Illinois Wesleyan. He also pinned Millikin inside their own 20-yard line once during the contest.

The CCIW also listed previous weekly honorees for offense, defense, and special teams dating back to September.
