Illinois Wesleyan golfer Pablo Castro has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Week after setting a new single-round record for his school. Castro recorded a 64 at last month’s NCAA Division III Preview, marking both a personal and program best.
The event took place at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, from September 21 to 23. The first round was held at Las Colinas (par-71, 6,856 yards), and the final two rounds were played at El Campeon (par-72, 6,750 yards). Castro finished sixth overall with a three-round total of 211 (four-under par), improving his scores each day with rounds of 77, 70, and 64.
His eight-under-par final round helped Illinois Wesleyan move up in the standings. The team climbed from 22nd place after the opening round to finish fourth, only four strokes behind tournament winners Emory University.
The CCIW also recognized other student-athletes for their performances earlier in the season: Aidan Healy (Illinois Wesleyan) on September 24, Myles Lahart (Illinois Wesleyan) on September 17, Bo Smith (Elmhurst) on September 10, and Trevor Biggerstaff (Millikin) on September 3.
