Illinois Wesleyan’s Liza Wiley and North Central’s Lily Mattison have been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Soccer Student-Athletes of the Week.
Wiley, a sophomore forward for Illinois Wesleyan, contributed six points in two victories for her team last week. She scored the opening goal in the 29th minute during a 5-1 win over Monmouth and assisted on two second-half goals in that match. In Sunday’s game against Wartburg, Wiley scored in the sixth minute to help secure a 2-1 win for Illinois Wesleyan.
On the defensive side, Lily Mattison, a sophomore from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, represented North Central. Mattison recorded 18 saves over two games while maintaining a 0.50 goals-against average and a .947 save percentage. She achieved a shutout victory at Calvin after playing all 90 minutes and making four saves on 17 shots faced. In Friday’s contest against top-ranked WashU, Mattison set a career high with 14 saves.
The CCIW continues to recognize outstanding performances weekly throughout its women’s soccer season by naming both offensive and defensive student-athletes of the week.
Recent honorees include Izzy Jones of Millikin and Kelli Coughlin of Elmhurst on offense, as well as Ainsley Stallworth of Carthage and Nora Simon of Elmhurst on defense.
