BJ Sorg, Men's Cross Country Player | College Conference Of Wisconsin And Illinois
North Central College junior BJ Sorg has received his first United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week award following a strong performance at the Cardinals' season opener on September 5.
Sorg, who is from Plainfield, Illinois, finished the NCCXC Invitational 8k in 24:26.10, winning the race on the Cardinals' home course at St. James Farm. He completed the race nearly 40 seconds ahead of the next runner, recording the second-fastest time ever on that course.
This recognition marks the eighth time a North Central College athlete has been named national athlete of the week by USTFCCCA. The last Cardinal to earn this honor was Dhruvil Patel in 2018, when he won it for a third time. Other previous recipients include three-time winner John Crain and Troy Kelleher.
The North Central team will compete next at the Aurora Spartan XC Classic in Batavia, Illinois, on Saturday, September 13. The men's race will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Northwestern Medicine Cross Country Course.
