North Central will begin its football season as the top-ranked team in the country, according to polls released by D3football.com and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). The team received 23 of 25 first-place votes from D3football.com and 51 of 52 top votes from coaches. North Central is set to open its season this Saturday against Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Wheaton, after a loss to #2 Mount Union in its opening game, dropped to #22 in both polls. In that matchup, Wheaton accumulated 383 yards and scored 22 points in the fourth quarter before falling short.

Other teams yet to play their first games include St. John’s (#5), Wisconsin-La Crosse (#9), and Bethel (#12). These teams are scheduled to start their seasons this Saturday alongside North Central.

Washington University (WashU) earned 25 points in the AFCA poll following a decisive 49-0 victory over Rhodes last weekend. WashU gained 435 yards on offense, held Rhodes to just 122 yards, and led by a score of 42-0 at halftime.
