City of Warrenville Bicyclist and Pedestrian Advisory Commission met May 13

A. CALL TO ORDER
Commissioner Charles Sikaras called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
B. ROLL CALL
Members Present: Commissioners Susan Kasprowicz, Charles Sikaras and Sebastian Pique
Members Absent: Chairman Harlan Davis, Commissioner Alex Griffin
Also Present: City Council Liaison Craig Kruckenberg, Staff Liaison Kassandra Hernandez-Galvan, and Fitness Supervisor Nick Bovio
C. APPROVAL OF APRIL 08, 2025 MEETING MINUTES
A motion to approve minutes of the meeting was made by Commissioner Sikaras and seconded by Commissioner Pique.

E. STAFF REPORT
Staff Liaison Kassandra Hernandez-Galvan introduced Warrenville’s plan to develop a comprehensive plan consistent with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and shared a link to Warrenville’s Plan for Accessible Streets and Sidewalks on the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning website: https://engage.cmap.illinois.gov/warrenvilleplan-for-accessible-streets-and-sidewalks
F. BUSINESS OF MEETING
Prairie Path Cleanup:
Commissioner Pique explained that a large group of volunteers showed up to participate in cleanup of the Warrenville Prairie Path branch stemming from Winfield Road to Route 59. Staff Liaison Hernandez-Galvan shared a picture that Commissioner Pique obtained of garbage pickup on the trail.
Spring Fling at Johnson Elementary:
A review of the Spring Fling was given by Commissioner Kasprowicz; Commissioner Kasprowicz stated that BPAC Chairman Davis, Staff Liaison Hernandez-Galvan, and Commissioners Kasprowicz and Pique were in attendance. This was the first year that BPAC was in attendance at the Spring Fling. There was a large turnout – about 200 attendees. BPAC brought educational materials and sunglasses that were passed out to the students and families. Fliers were shared for the upcoming BPAC Bicycle Rodeo event.
Discussion of Bike Rodeo [05/17/2025] :
Staff Liaison Hernandez-Galvan stated that signs and materials had been obtained and were ready for the Bike Rodeo on 05/17/2025, indicated that Enterprise offered to donate cases of water for the event, and that six key club members have volunteered to assist with the event. Staff Liaison Hernandez-Galvan concluded by stating that waivers and certificates of completion were printed and ready. Fitness Supervisor Bovio noted that the Park District would be able to provide cones and surface paint for the Bike Rodeo. It was noted that Mayor Johnson would be in attendance; Mayor Johnson has been provided with certificates of completion to sign.
Discussion on E-Bike Education:
Staff Liaison Hernandez-Galvan, consistent with the information discussed in the 04/08/2025 BPAC meeting, indicated that the City of Warrenville has created its own community e-bike resource and shared it in the latest edition of the Hometown Happenings: https://www.warrenville.il.us/DocumentCenter/View/30186/Hometown-Happenings_-EBike-Newsletter
Discussion on Bicyclist Friendly Community Application Review:
Due to the absent BPAC commissioners, this has been deferred for the 06/10/2025 meeting.

Copy of Proclamation awarded to Chairman Davis by Mayor Andy Johnson was shared with meeting attendees.
