City of Darien Police Committee met April 21
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. in attendance were Chairman Kenney, Alderman Ralph Stompanato, Alderman Eric Gustafson and Police Chief Greg Thomas.
2. Public Comment and Communications
There was no public comment or communication.
3. Approval of Meeting Minutes from the April 7, 2025 Rescheduled Meeting.
Alderman Stompanato motioned to approve the minutes seconded by Alderman Gustafson. The minutes were approved.
4. Memorandum of Understanding between Northeast DuPage Family and Youth Services (NEDFYS) and the City of Darien for Social Worker Services.
Chief Thomas advised the committee that the police department requested a full-time social worker position in the FYE26 budget. The social worker agreement is now complete and he is now asking for the social worker position to be funded. The social worker services will be part-time initially and shared with three other departments, Hinsdale Police Department, Burr Ridge Police Department and Willowbrook Police Department.
The position will potentially grow to a full-time position. There is also the possibility of a grant that NEDFYS would write for Darien for funding. The social worker will start in May 2025. The committee discussed what type of calls the social worker would participate in with the police, the services provided and the payment agreement with NEDFYS.
5. Police Department Monthly Report
Chief Thomas discussed highlights of the monthly report with the committee.
6. An ordinance authorizing the sale or disposal of surplus property.
Alderman Gustafson motioned to approve the minutes seconded by Alderman Stompanato. The minutes were approved.
7. Next Meeting Date – April 21, 2025
8. Adjournment
Alderman Stompanato motioned to adjourn seconded by Alderman Gustafson. The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
