As budget discussions proceed in Springfield, State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro from Hanover Park has voiced opposition to a proposed service tax she believes will negatively impact working families and small businesses across Illinois.

"We don’t even have enough money to cover all the state’s spending, and instead of cutting waste, the answer being pushed – like always – is more taxes," stated Rep. Sanalitro.

The proposal seeks to impose taxes on over 80 services including haircuts, pet grooming, car repairs, lawn care, dry cleaning, and streaming services.

"This hurts working families, seniors, and small businesses the most," remarked Sanalitro. "A single mom hires a repairman for a broken dishwasher – now gets taxed. An elderly couple pays for lawn care – now gets taxed. A young person saving for their first home goes for a haircut – now gets taxed."

Sanalitro expressed her concerns further: "I would go as far to say that service-based small business owners – and their customers – are being targeted by this proposal. Let’s be honest: this isn’t a fix. It’s a cash grab stick-up and the taxpayers are the ones about to get robbed – AGAIN."

She urges lawmakers to reject the tax increase and focus on reducing wasteful spending: "Let’s put taxpayers first, stop growing government, and start defending the people we represent. They demand it."
