A legislative proposal by State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro aimed at offering Illinois drivers a nostalgic option for their vehicle license plates has successfully passed the Illinois House of Representatives. House Bill 3391 will now proceed to the Senate for additional deliberation.
Rep. Sanalitro's bill suggests that the Secretary of State should offer license plates modeled after a design used in Illinois from 1983 to 2001. The proposal sets a fee of $40 for the initial issuance and $27 for annual renewal, with the generated funds earmarked for the maintenance of Illinois' vehicle services.
"Many Illinois drivers remember these classic plates, and this bill gives them the choice to bring that style back," stated Rep. Sanalitro. "It’s a fun way to celebrate our state’s history while giving drivers more options."
The bill found bipartisan backing in the House, indicating widespread interest among Illinois residents in blending nostalgia with civic pride. Following its approval in the House, the proposal now awaits consideration in the Illinois Senate.
