Rep. Sean Casten, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Illinois' 6th district, has expressed concerns over recent actions taken by the Trump Administration regarding federal funding. Casten, who has served in Congress since 2019, communicated his views through a series of tweets on January 28, 2025.

In a tweet posted at 15:55 UTC, Rep. Casten criticized Donald Trump's decision to pause virtually all federal funding. He described it as "a harmful, unnecessary, and unconstitutional directive that has caused mass confusion." He noted the uncertainty surrounding which programs would be affected and assured constituents that his office would provide updates as they become available.

Later that day at 21:21 UTC, Rep. Casten addressed claims made by the Trump Administration in a revised memo stating that Medicaid would not be impacted by the funding pause. Despite this assurance, he pointed out that "states, including Illinois, have been locked out of the Medicaid portal."

In another tweet at the same time, Rep. Casten further criticized Trump's actions by stating that "Donald Trump’s latest unconstitutional and harmful act of pausing federal funding is the latest example that you cannot take the Trump Administration at its word." He emphasized the importance of observing their actions rather than relying solely on their statements.
