A jury has found Richard Goodwin, a 59-year-old former resident of Glendale Heights, guilty of the murder of Marek Krywko in 2021. The verdict was reached after sixteen hours of deliberation following a four-day trial. Goodwin was convicted on charges of First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery.
The incident occurred on August 2, 2021, when Hanover Park police responded to a gunshot victim report at a residence on Pebblebeach Drive. Officers discovered two victims: one woman with a gunshot wound to her left thigh and Marek Krywko with a fatal gunshot wound to his left thigh that struck his femoral artery. Despite receiving first aid and being transported to a hospital, Krywko died shortly thereafter.
Investigations revealed that Goodwin and two women were at the location to purchase marijuana from Krywko. During the encounter, Goodwin shot both the female victim and Krywko before fleeing with the women. He was arrested without incident on August 25, 2021.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin commented on the verdict: “This afternoon, after being presented with all the evidence, a jury found Richard Goodwin guilty of the senseless murder of Marek Krywko,” he said. He expressed gratitude towards the jury for their service and acknowledged Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh for ensuring a fair trial. Berlin also thanked various law enforcement agencies and Assistant State’s Attorneys Louisa Nuckolls, Alyssa Rabulinski, and Daniel Orescanin for their roles in securing the conviction.
Goodwin remains in custody at DuPage County Jail since his bond was set at $500,000 full cash in August 2021. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 4, 2025.
