DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Aurora Chief of Police Keith Cross announced that Judge Alex McGimpsey has approved the state's request to deny pre-trial release for Christopher Munger, an Aurora resident accused of human trafficking and promoting prostitution. Munger, aged 43, faces charges including one count of trafficking in persons, two counts of involuntary servitude, and one count of promoting prostitution.
The Aurora Police Department began investigating on November 22, 2024, after receiving information about online prostitution advertisements. Their investigation led them to Munger's residence. On December 11, undercover officers conducted an operation at his address where a transaction allegedly took place involving $400 given to an eighteen-year-old woman from West Virginia. The money was reportedly slid under a door where Munger later collected it.
It is alleged that Munger met the woman online and transported her from West Virginia to Aurora. The woman was reported missing from a group home in West Virginia as she had no family there.
Berlin stated, “The charges against Mr. Munger are appalling,” emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations. He commended the police department and Homeland Security Investigations for their work on the case.
Aurora Police Chief Keith Cross acknowledged citizens who reported the matter: “Their actions played a vital role in ensuring the victim received help sooner rather than later.” He also noted that such cases are uncommon in Aurora but assured thorough investigation efforts were made.
Munger is scheduled for arraignment on January 6, 2025, before Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.
Authorities remind the public that charges are not proof of guilt; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
