DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Oak Brook Chief of Police Brian Strockis have announced that Judge Maureen Riordan has approved the state's request to deny pre-trial release for Kahdijah Terry, a Chicago woman accused of fleeing from police and crashing into another vehicle. Terry, 30, appeared in court charged with two counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, one count of criminal damage to property, and various misdemeanor and traffic offenses.
The incident occurred on November 27, 2024. Oak Brook police officers were alerted about a black Audi Q5 linked to robbery investigations. Officers located the vehicle near Oak Brook Mall and attempted a traffic stop after it allegedly tapped their unmarked squad car. It is claimed that Terry ignored signals to stop and sped away at over sixty miles per hour before colliding with a Lexus SUV at an intersection. After the crash, she reportedly refused to exit her vehicle until forcibly removed by officers.
Berlin commented on the situation: “The allegations that in the middle of the afternoon Ms. Terry not only sped away from officers but then crashed her car at the intersection of two of DuPage County’s busiest roadways are outrageous.” He emphasized public safety during the holiday season and praised law enforcement efforts.
Strockis added: “The Oak Brook police department is committed to keeping our community safe during this busy holiday shopping season. We will not tolerate this type of reckless behavior.”
Terry's next court appearance is set for December 23, 2024. The public is reminded that charges are not proof of guilt; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
