Starting January 1, 2025, Illinois will implement an increase in the minimum wage to $15 per hour for workers aged 18 and older. For workers under the age of 18, the minimum wage will rise to $13 per hour. This marks the final scheduled increase stemming from legislation enacted in 2019.

In Chicago, the minimum wage is already higher at $16.20 per hour. The city's wages are subject to annual adjustments based on inflation or a set rate of 2.5%.

The changes reflect ongoing efforts to improve compensation standards across the state.
