FOIA Request to City of Wheaton Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
We at the DuPage Policy Journal, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have sent a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request was made for all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, until the present date.
The information requested includes specific details such as the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address, and contractor's name. In addition to this data for new permits, we have also asked for a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status.
As journalists committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We believe that our role in disseminating information makes us eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
