FOIA Request to City of Darien Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
The DuPage Policy Journal, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Darien. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
We are seeking records in electronic format that list all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, until the present date. The desired fields include the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address where work is being done, and contractor's name.
In addition to this information, we have also requested details regarding all active residential and commercial building permits and their current status. The same fields as mentioned above are required for these active permits.
As a media organization committed to public service journalism, we believe access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We have therefore requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the provisions of the FOIA.
We await a response from the City of Darien and will continue our efforts in ensuring transparency in local government affairs.
