FOIA Request Sent to City of Wood Dale Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the City of Wood Dale Finance Department on October 31, 2024. The request, made by DuPage Policy Journal, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks specific records related to city sales tax.

In the pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we have requested records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. Specifically, we are seeking a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. The requested list should include each business's name and type as well as the amount of sales tax paid.

Additionally, we have asked for the total amount of sales tax that the city collected within this same period. As a media organization dedicated to informing the public and holding public institutions accountable, we believe access to these records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities.

Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also indicated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional under FOIA guidelines. We await a response from the City of Wood Dale Finance Department regarding this request.
