FOIA Request Sent to City of Wheaton Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Wheaton Finance Department on October 31, 2024. The request, filed by DuPage Policy Journal, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought specific records related to city sales tax.

The FOIA request asked for a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. The requested information includes the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax each business paid during this period.

In addition to this detailed breakdown, DuPage Policy Journal also requested the total amount of sales tax that the city collected from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024.

As a media organization focused on providing transparency in local government affairs and holding public institutions accountable, we at DuPage Policy Journal believe access to these public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We also requested a fee waiver as part of our role in disseminating information as media professionals.

The City of Wheaton Finance Department has yet to respond to this FOIA request.
