FOIA Request to Wheaton City Council Regarding Information on Council Members on October 15, 2024.
In a recent effort to promote transparency and accountability in local government, the DuPage Policy Journal submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Wheaton City Council in Illinois. The request was sent on October 15, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to comprehensive and accurate news coverage of local governmental affairs, we requested specific records related to all council members. The information sought includes each member's name, title, year appointed, term length (2 or 4 years), and term expiration date.
The FOIA request is part of our journalistic responsibility to provide the public with vital information about their elected officials. Access to such public records allows us to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency for the community we serve.
Given our role as a media organization disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as per standard media professional protocols.
We await the response from Wheaton City Council and will continue to work diligently in reporting local governmental affairs with accuracy and integrity.
