Illinois State Police Trooper Corey S. Thompsen has died following a collision while on duty. The incident occurred when a truck entered an intersection in Champaign County and struck the 28-year-old trooper's motorcycle during a traffic enforcement detail on Friday afternoon. Despite immediate assistance from a witness and first responders, Thompsen was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to the hospital.

Trooper Thompsen had served the Illinois community for nearly five years, remembered as both a dedicated law enforcement officer and a beloved husband, son, and brother.

The driver of the truck involved in the accident was cited for failure to yield at a stop intersection and for having an expired driver's license. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

"Rest in Peace: Trooper Corey S. Thompsen," expressed officials, extending condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. "We ask for your prayers and support during this time."
