Mike Musson, the Wayne Township Republican Chair, accused Vice President Kamala Harris of politicizing Hurricane Milton for personal gain rather than focusing on aiding American citizens in need. Musson shared his statement with the Dupage Policy Journal on October 9.
"Kamala Harris is shamelessly politicizing Hurricane Milton while Americans still suffer from the devastation of Hurricane Helene," said Musson, Chairman of the Wayne Township Republican Organization. "Instead of focusing on helping those affected, she's making it all about herself, throwing baseless accusations at Governor Ron DeSantis. As Hurricane Milton looms, she's more interested in playing political games and grabbing headlines than rolling up her sleeves to do anything meaningful. This isn't leadership—it's self-serving grandstanding at a time when people's lives are at stake."
According to Axios, a dispute has arisen between Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Vice President Harris over responses to Hurricane Helene. Harris said that individuals in crisis require support and criticized political maneuvering during emergencies as irresponsible. She claimed to have contacted DeSantis, who denied receiving any communication from her. DeSantis countered her accusations by emphasizing his focus on resource allocation, including discussions with President Biden and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). He asserted that Harris had not participated in previous storm responses despite her tenure as vice president.
In an interview on Hannity dated October 7, DeSantis remarked, "For Kamala Harris to try to say my sole focus on the people of Florida is somehow selfish is delusional. She has no role in this; in fact, she's been vice president for three and a half years. I've dealt with a number of storms under this administration; she's never contributed anything to any of these efforts. She's the first one who's trying to politicize the storm…. I don't have time for political games. I've got people whose lives are on the line."
Musson, who resides in Bartlett, was first elected as Chair of the Wayne Township Republican Organization (WTRO) in 2018. In his role as Chair, he focuses on increasing Republican voter turnout, expanding party membership, and communicating party positions on issues important to Wayne Township voters.
