DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced the sentencing of Isaiah Johnson, one of two men involved in a series of home invasions and a shooting incident in Wheaton and Lombard, Illinois. Johnson has been sentenced to 72 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections following his guilty plea to charges including Attempt Murder and Home Invasion. He will serve 50.7 years before being eligible for parole.

Johnson, formerly of Blue Island, appeared before Judge Margaret O’Connell for his sentencing hearing. On August 2, 2023, he pleaded guilty to the charges without an agreement on sentencing terms. The judge sentenced him to 42 years for Attempt Murder and a consecutive sentence of 30 years for Home Invasion.

His co-defendant, Malik Pitts, was previously sentenced to 60 years in prison on March 18, 2024. Pitts had entered a guilty plea to charges including Attempt Murder and Home Invasion as well as Attempt Child Pornography.

The incidents occurred on August 23, 2020. At approximately 5:04 a.m., Wheaton police responded to reports of a home invasion at East Evergreen Street where Johnson and Pitts confronted homeowners with a firearm. The pair later fled the scene in a stolen vehicle after engaging in violent acts against the residents.

Later that morning, at about 5:22 a.m., Lombard police were called to another home invasion involving the same suspects at Highland Avenue. During this invasion, Johnson shot a homeowner who was engaged in an altercation with Pitts.

A third accomplice, Keytori Jackson, who drove the getaway vehicle during these crimes, has received a sentence of fourteen years for her involvement.

State’s Attorney Berlin remarked on the severity of their actions stating: “The shockingly violent behavior of Mr. Johnson and Mr. Pitts violated the sanctity of their victims’ homes.” He emphasized that such crimes create fear within communities but expressed satisfaction with the sentences handed down by Judge O'Connell as they underscore DuPage County's commitment to public safety.

Assistant State’s Attorneys Jennifer Lindt, Heather Misura and Cathy Nusgart were commended by Berlin for their efforts in prosecuting the case effectively.
