DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Woodridge Chief of Police Tom Stefanson announced that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted the State's motion to detain Alexis Alcauter, a Bolingbrook resident, pending trial. Alcauter is accused of fleeing from police and crashing his vehicle into another occupied car. He appeared in court charged with one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding, along with several misdemeanor and petty driving offenses.
Alcauter was already on pre-trial release for unlawful delivery of cocaine and aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer in an earlier incident on July 2, 2024. The motion to detain him pre-trial for that case was previously denied.
On October 3, officers from the Woodridge Police Department stopped a grey 2005 Mercedes sedan allegedly driven by Alcauter for not having a front license plate. While speaking with Alcauter, officers placed spike strips in front of the car and asked him to park it. Instead, he allegedly drove over the spike strips and fled westbound on 83rd Street. Officers pursued him after activating their emergency lights and siren.
At the intersection of 83rd Street and David Drive, Alcauter reportedly lost control of his vehicle, crashing into an occupied Honda Accord. After the crash rendered the Honda undriveable, Alcauter allegedly fled on foot but was apprehended by officers nearby. It is also alleged that he possessed approximately 25.3 grams of cannabis at the time.
Berlin stated: “Judge Dieden’s order to detain Mr. Alcauter pending trial sends the message that in DuPage County we take crimes that endanger public safety very seriously.” He added appreciation for the efforts made by both law enforcement officers involved in apprehending Alcauter and Assistant State’s Attorneys Adam Frahm and Andrew Poncer for their work on this case.
Stefanson expressed pride in his officers' dedication: “I’m extremely proud of officers involved in this case and their dedication to keeping a dangerous criminal out of our community.”
Alcauter's arraignment is scheduled for October 28 before Judge Joseph Bugos.
The public is reminded that these charges are not proof of guilt; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt at trial.
