News emerged on Friday that all members of the Chicago Board of Education have resigned. This decision comes amid ongoing pressure from Mayor Brandon Johnson to dismiss Pedro Martinez. State Senator Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) responded to the resignations with a statement.

“It’s troubling that every member of the Chicago School Board chose to resign their position rather than face unrelenting pressure from Mayor Brandon Johnson to fire Pedro Martinez," Lewis stated. He expressed concern that these actions indicate the mayor is prioritizing the Chicago Teachers Union over his constituents, adding, "Taxpayers should hold onto their wallets."

Senator Lewis also addressed financial implications related to the mayor's plans for transformation. “The Mayor of Chicago has repeatedly asked the General Assembly to be THE financial solution for his proposed transformation plan. He has a right to ask, but the General Assembly has a right to say NO." He advised caution, urging the mayor and his allies to “count the votes” in Springfield before proceeding with any plans requiring financial commitments beyond current statutes.
