State Representative Amy Grant: 'According to the USDA, the Illinois corn crop is maturing ahead of pace'

State Representative Amy Grant shared information about the progress of the state's corn crop, saying, "This is your reminder that Illinois farmers feed our families so please keep wishing them a safe and bountiful harvest season this year," in a Sept. 4 Facebook post.

"According to the USDA, the Illinois corn crop is maturing ahead of pace," said Grant, according to Facebook. "This is your reminder that Illinois farmers feed our families so please keep wishing them a safe and bountiful harvest season this year."

In her Facebook post, Grant shared an article from Brownfield Ag News, announcing that the state’s corn crop is maturing ahead of schedule. According to the publication, not only is the corn crop maturing ahead of schedule, but the state’s soybean crops are also progressing faster than usual. "The latest weekly crop progress and condition report shows 24% of the corn crop is mature, 13% ahead of normal. The corn crop remains in good condition with 71% rated good to excellent. Seventy percent is dented compared to 63% normally. Sixty-eight percent of soybeans are in good to excellent condition and 14% are dropping leaves, which is 11% ahead of average," Brownfield Ag News reported on Sept. 3.

A Sept. 9 article from Brownfield Ag News stated that the corn harvest has begun across the nation, with 5% harvested as of Sunday, Sept. 8. According to the article, this is ahead of schedule and progressing well. "The USDA says 5% of the crop is harvested as of Sunday, just ahead of the five-year average, with most of that in southern growing areas. Ninety-five percent of corn has reached the dough-making stage, 74% has dented, and 29% is mature, with 64% of the crop good to excellent, down 1% on the week," Brownfield Ag reported on Sept. 9. The soybeans are mostly at the setting stage; however, "25% are dropping leaves," which is faster than average.

Grant represents the people of the 47th House District. Her political career includes six years on the DuPage County Board from 2012-2018. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Pittsburgh and has lived in Wheaton for more than two decades with her husband. They are actively involved in their community through various organizations including the DuPage County Historical Museum Board and Glen Oaks Hospital Community Partnership Committee.
