Illinois State House District 26 candidate Audrey Barrett called for an end to killings, saying, "I'll be praying for the victim, family and Pastor Corey Brooks." She made this statement in an August 27 Facebook post.
"Let us stop with the killing," said Barrett, according to Facebook. "I'll be praying for the victim, family and Pastor Corey Brooks. No mother should ever have to bury their child."
In her Facebook post, Barrett shared a link to an article from CBS News Chicago announcing the death of Pastor Corey Brooks’ godson, identified by Brooks as Christon Tucker. According to CBS News Chicago, Brooks stated that this is not the first loss the Tucker family has suffered.

"We kind of, like, kept Chris close to us as a result of losing his brother. Chris was a great student, a good kid, not participating in any gangs. The detectives even said that it was amazing they couldn't even find a parking ticket on him. That's how squeaky clean he's been," said Brooks.
As of the publication of the August 26 report, there was no one in custody, and the family is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
ABC7 reported that Tucker, 21, was inside a vehicle when he was struck by gunfire multiple times. After Tucker was pronounced dead, Brooks received a call about his godson.
"He was just waiting in a car and someone just took his life, but he wasn't a bad kid. He wasn't in a gang... he wasn't a kid running around doing mischievous stuff... he was a really, really good kid. This is her 21-year-old son... great kid... a student... sports... in college... just a tough situation," said Brooks in the August 25 report from ABC7.
