Senator Seth Lewis issued a warning about the upcoming heat wave, stating, "We're in for a HOT week! Take care and don't overheat!" He shared this message in a June 17 Facebook post.

"We're in for a HOT week! Take care and don't overheat," said Seth P Lewis, State Senator, according to Facebook.

In his post, Senator Lewis shared information from the DuPage Public Safety Communications. The post explained that heat waves occur when temperatures reach high levels or when heat and humidity make the air oppressive. The graphic highlighted that children, older adults, outdoor workers, and people with disabilities are more likely to be at risk of heat-related deaths. It also noted that more males are affected than females.

Ready Illinois urged residents to closely monitor those who could be adversely affected by the heat, such as children, the elderly, and individuals requiring special care. Ready Illinois also suggested that those without air conditioning should visit cooling centers, public pools, and other air-conditioned locations for relief.

According to Ready Illinois, there are various heat-related illnesses with identifiable symptoms. Heat exhaustion may present with a fast, weak pulse; cool, pale skin; normal temperature or low-grade fever; fainting; vomiting; and dizziness. Heat stroke occurs when an individual's body temperature is between 103 degrees and 106 degrees Fahrenheit. Symptoms include hot, red, dry skin; cessation of sweating; fast and shallow breathing; seizures; or unconsciousness.

Senator Lewis represents the people of the 24th Senate District since January 2023. Before his current role, he spent two years in the Illinois House of Representatives. He is an independent business owner and agent with State Farm and previously worked as Vice President of Operations for a small manufacturing business in Melrose Park.
