Illinois Senate Republican Leader John Curran (R-Downers Grove) said Illinois’ soft stance on crime “continues to embolden dangerous criminal behavior” after a husband and wife were pointlessly attacked in Chicago.
“The Illinois Democrats’ catch and release soft on crime approach continues to embolden dangerous criminal behavior,” Curran said. “The fastest way to deter violent criminal behavior is by holding offenders accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
A Chicago woman and her husband were attacked by two teenagers while on a date night in the Streeterville neighborhood. Around 8:30 p.m. near Grand Avenue and McClurg Court, the couple was assaulted by two teens who punched, kicked, and stomped on them repeatedly.
The woman was two weeks pregnant at the time, and after the attack found out she had lost the baby.
The assault was not a robbery, nor did the couple know the two assailants.
“I was wearing like a nice dress and heels,” the wife told Fox 32 Chicago. “Like I was out on the date with my husband, and they dragged my dress on the ground, and they said, like, ‘we own the street. You can’t just walk around prancing in your little dress.’”
Chicago police arrested a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl after the attack. Both teens were charged with one count of misdemeanor battery.
