DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Roselle Chief of Police Rob Barreto announced that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for a Chicago man, Justin Gray, 32, charged with shooting at a moving vehicle in Roselle. Gray is accused of aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 Felony.
The incident occurred on February 7, 2024, when Roselle police officers responded to a road rage shooting report at the BP Gas Station located at 509 W. Lake Street. It is alleged that Gray, driving a white Lincoln SUV, honked at the victim who had stopped at a yellow-into-red light at Barrington Road and Lake Street in Hanover Park. As the victim continued eastbound on Lake Street, Gray reportedly pulled out a gun near Lake Street and Rodenburg Road in Roselle and fired at the victim's vehicle. After firing, Gray allegedly passed the victim and drove away. The victim then pulled into the BP Gas Station and alerted the police.
Following an investigation into the matter, police identified Gray as a suspect. On May 6, 2024, Judge Leah Bendik issued an arrest warrant for Gray. He was arrested by the Illinois State Police on May 10, 2024.
Berlin praised the efforts of law enforcement in apprehending Gray: “Shooting from a moving vehicle at another moving vehicle...not only puts the victim in extreme danger but also any other motorists who may be on the road...This type of violent and dangerous behavior will not be tolerated in DuPage County." He commended both Roselle Police Department and Illinois State Police for their outstanding work.
Chief Barreto echoed these sentiments: “I am extremely proud of all the work that was put into this case...we were able to work together as a team to bring this criminal to justice."
Gray's next court appearance is scheduled for June 10, 2024, before Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh. It is important to note that the charges against Gray are allegations and not proof of guilt. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
