Orlando Velasquez-Varguilla, an illegal alien from Venezuela now living in Chicago's Loop, at the former Standard Club, traveled to Oak Brook Center on Sat. April 27th to steal clothing from a Nordstom there.

But he did not succeed.

Oak Brook Police nabbed Velasquez-Varguilla, making him their tenth illegal alien arrest for shoplifting in April and their 89th since a flood of illegals started arriving in the Chicago metro area in early 2023. That's according to a DuPage Policy Journal analysis of village arrest data.

There have been 112 shoplifting arrests in Oak Brook through April 30 this year, an 80 percent increase over 2023, when there were 62 over the same period.

In the fourth quarter of 2023-- the months of October, November and December-- Oak Brook police arrested 121 shoplifters, 32 of whom were illegal aliens, the analysis showed.

That was up 87 percent from a year earlier, the fourth quarter of 2022, when they arrested 65 shoplifters, none of whom were illegals.

December 2023 was a record-setting month for illegal alien shoplifting at Oak Brook, records show.

Police arrested 17 illegal aliens shoplifting that month, 14 of whom told officers they were from Venezuela. The other three gave no country of origin.

They included 28 year-old Victor S. Romero, arrested robbing Nordstrom on Sat. Dec. 30.

Records show Romero, who also told police that the Standard Club, a former elite Jewish social club at 320 S. Plymouth Ct., where Gov. J.B. Pritzker was once a member, was his home, was arrested again by Chicago Police for "drinking alcohol in the public way" on Sun. March 10.

Two other Standard Club residents, 19 year-old Joel Gamez and 23 year-old George Uribe-Rodriquez, were arrested the same day in Oak Brook, trying to rob T.J. Maxx.

It was Gamez' second shoplifting arrest that week. Chicago Police also arrested for retail theft on Wed. Dec 27, at the corner of State and Madison in the Loop, across the street from a Walgreens.

"Homeless" and "Ageless"

Police departments aren't required to systemically track whether or not the perpetrators they arrest are U.S. Citizens, and one's citizenship isn't a standard field on public arrest reports.

But Village of Oak Brook police noted on some police reports when the shoplifters they arrested admitted they were illegals.

Of the 89 illegal alien Oak Brook shoplifters tracked by DuPage Policy Journal, 61 gave their country of origin as Venezuela, six Colombia, two Ecuador and two Romania; 76 were men, and 13 were women, and 54-- or 61 percent of those arrested--- were under age 25.

Half of the illegal aliens arrested told police they were "homeless" or gave no address, including Yordan Medina-Medina, 46, and Luis C. Reyes-Gomez, 18, who were arrested on Wed. Sept. 20 while trying to rob the Oak Brook Macy's.

Six told Oak Brook police they had no address, and no date of birth. All police were able to record was a name of the perpetrator.

Of 89 Oak Brook illegal alien shoplifting arrests dating back to Jan. 2023, 63 were for attempted thefts at Macy's. T.J. Maxx (ten), The Nike Store (six) and Nordstrom (5) were the next most common.

In Illinois, all illegal aliens arrested for shoplifting are required to be released back into the public; police are barred from turning them over to federal authorities for deportation, per a state law signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker in 2021.

American citizens arrested for shoplifting in Illinois are offered a choice of detention or a resisting arrest charge, if they decide that they do want the same freedom of illegals under Illinois statute.
