Heather Brown, the candidate for Illinois' Sixth Congressional District, expressed her concerns about the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). She stated, "The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act not only allows spying on foreign entities but also on Americans." Brown, who is set to compete against incumbent Democrat Sean Casten in the general election, further claimed that this act demonstrates "the big government overreach" supported by her opponent.

"The US House voted and passed the FISA act, which is now in its way to the Senate," said Niki Conforti, according to Facebook. "The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act not only allows spying on foreign entities but also on Americans. Sean Casten voted to allow the continuation of the ability to spy on Americans without a warrant. This is another example of the big government overreach that Sean Casten supports!!"

In a Facebook post, Conforti shared a link to a New York Times article discussing the two-year extension of FISA. The newspaper reported that reauthorization of the soon-to-expire law had been delayed due to "G.O.P resistance stoked by former President Donald J. Trump."

According to officials cited by The New York Times, FISA was due to expire on Friday but was extended following a "bipartisan effort to restrict searches of Americans’ messages swept up by the program". This significant amendment could potentially undermine the law. The publication also noted that a proposal to introduce a warrant requirement failed on a 212-212 tie vote, with 13 members of the House abstaining.

Another article from The New York Times published on April 18 revealed that the Senate had agreed to proceed with reauthorization via a 67-32 vote.

Conforti's professional experience includes working as an energy consultant and holding a 12-year position in healthcare within large health systems. She holds a degree from the University of Chicago School of Economics and an MBA in Healthcare Administration from George Washington University. According to her website, Conforti's family history is marked by immigration and military service. In addition to her political pursuits, she actively participates in community service and philanthropy through church initiatives and organizations such as International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) and Mothers2Mothers Charities.
