Hannah Billingsley has secured the Republican nomination for state House district 49. She is set to compete against incumbent Democrat Maura Hirschauer in the upcoming general election in November.

"Billingsley: “This isn't just a win for Your Dream Matters; its OUR win, every single one of us," said Hanah Billingsley, Republican Candidate for state House District 49, according to Facebook. "Me and my opponent, Maura Hirschauer, have competing views of our district – how to represent the families here and also how to make their lives better. I am fully convinced that our district will be better off with me serving them. This victory is our launchpad for the real deal coming up."

Billingsley triumphed over Aris Garcia in the Republican primary held on March 19, as per Ballotpedia's records. Garnering 3,057 votes, which accounted for 74.1% of the total votes, she outpaced Garcia who managed to secure only 1,069 votes or 25.9% of the total.

According to Ballotpedia's 2024 candidate survey, Billingsley's campaign is primarily centered around public safety, balanced budgets and lower taxes, along with addressing the opioid crisis and mental health issues. Speaking about her stance on public safety, she stated, "In a community where every individual and family feels safe, opportunity and prosperity follow. My commitment is to reinforce public safety, ensuring that our neighborhoods are secure and our law enforcement officers are well-supported and well-equipped."

On fiscal matters such as balanced budgets and lower taxes, Billingsley expressed: "Sound fiscal management is the cornerstone of effective governance. Drawing from my background in business, I pledge to bring the principles of accountability, efficiency, and sustainability to our public finances. A balanced budget is not just a number on a page; it's a commitment to our future, ensuring that we invest wisely, avoid burdening our children with debt, and let individuals keep more of their hard-earned money."

When it comes to tackling the opioid crisis and mental health concerns she noted: "Addressing these challenges requires more than policies; it demands empathy, understanding, and action. My approach is rooted in my faith and my belief in the power of compassion and community. I am committed to promoting comprehensive solutions that include better access to treatment, support for families, education on mental health and substance abuse."

As detailed in her biography on her official campaign website, Billingsley is a business owner based in West Chicago. She also serves as a teacher and a member of the city zoning committee. Her community involvement includes volunteering at a local halfway house for women recovering from substance abuse and holding a board position in a nonprofit focused on addiction. In terms of political experience, she has previously served as Voter Engagement Coordinator in District 49 during Jesse Sullivan’s 2021 campaign.
