Senator Seth Lewis Appointed to Senate Republicans’ Budget Negotiation Team

State Senator Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) has been appointed to serve on the Senate Republicans’ Budget Negotiation Team as discussions for the Fiscal Year 2025 budget begin in earnest.

Senate Republican Leader John Curran (R-Downers Grove) expressed his confidence in Lewis, stating, “Senator Lewis brings a wealth of much-needed expertise to the budget-making process. I am confident he will be a strong voice for prioritizing the needs of Illinois families in crafting this year’s spending package.”

In bipartisan discussions of priorities for the upcoming fiscal year, Lewis will join State Senators Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles), Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet), and Sally Turner (R-Beason.

Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Lewis stated, “It is a privilege to be appointed as a member of our caucus’ negotiation team, and I look forward to having a seat at the table as we discuss spending priorities for the next fiscal year. I know there is much on which we can agree if we respect one another’s opinions, truly listen to each other, and keep an eye on moving Illinois forward on a path that benefits all who live and work here.”

Lewis, who was elected to the Illinois Senate in November of 2022 after serving one term in the House of Representatives, holds a Manufacturing Engineering Degree from the University of Iowa. He currently serves as the Minority Spokesperson for the Senate Appropriations- Public Safety & Infrastructure Committee, and on the Senate Appropriations- Health & Human Services Committees.

Speaking on the challenges ahead, Lewis acknowledged, “Pandemic relief funds have expired, and revenues are down, so there are some difficult decisions that will need to be made as the FY 2025 budget takes shape. I appreciate the opportunity to have an active role in negotiations.”
