The cost of chicken breast in Illinois has increased by five dollars per pound since 2020, according to an analysis Jewel-Osco product ads by DuPage Policy Journal.
A pack of chicken breast at the supermarket chain cost $6.99 per pound as of January 2, 2024, which is $5 more than the $1.99 per pound price tag for chicken breast on Dec. 16, 2020.
That marks a total of increase of 251% for chicken breast since 2020, which outpaces the supposed 2.7% inflation rate for food for the last year, as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
“These kinds of price spikes flow directly from the failed policies of the Leftists,” Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers (LAW), told DuPage Policy Journal. “The pain at the grocery store checkout is a direct result of the exorbitant borrow-and-spend policies of Joe Biden.”
“Joe Biden punishes regular earners by making the staple items of their life more expensive, from chicken to coffee,” said Cortes. “The supposed ‘working class’ politician does nothing but hurt blue collar Americans.”
Cortes is a political advisor and commentator. He previously traded global currencies and interest rates for 25 years for large international hedge funds. He has been an on-air broadcaster for CNBC, Fox News, and CNN.
Cortes founded LAW in 2022 to conduct research and develops proposals on public policies impacting American workers and the economy.
