Mark Rice, a candidate for the 8th Congressional District, has voiced his concerns about the management of public transportation by Illinois congressional Democrats, including his opponent U.S. Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.). He has accused them of openly acknowledging their failure in overseeing public transportation.

“As usual, they simply want more money to address it instead of fixing the real problem,” Rice said. “What’s the real problem you ask?”

“Their inept leadership. We watch them now giving cover to inept leadership.”

These comments from Rice followed a resolution proposed by Krishnamoorthi and 11 other members of the Illinois Congressional delegation addressing fiscal issues faced by transit agencies in the United States.

"The Illinois congressional democrats, including Rep Krishnamoorthi, are admitting it out loud… that under their leadership they have failed to manage public transportation," Rice said on Facebook

In a corporate setting, such poor performance would warrant termination, according to Rice.

In a letter addressed to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Federal Transit Administrator Nuria Fernandez, these lawmakers outlined potential consequences if a resolution is not reached. These include severe cuts to service, reduced safety inspections and decreased communal mobility. Chicago is particularly vulnerable as it heavily relies on transit agencies such as the Chicago Transit Authority, Pace and Metra. The city is currently facing a $730 million annual budget gap as early as next year. If no solution is found, this could substantially impact the regional economy and disproportionately affect communities of color and low-income individuals. According to Patch.com, federal funds designated for transit agencies during the COVID-19 pandemic are set to be exhausted in late 2025 and early 2026.

Rice's campaign for the 8th Congressional District emphasizes key areas such as promoting economic growth, upholding fiscal responsibility, enacting tax relief, and addressing issues related to immigration reform and border security. Having lived in Illinois for 35 years, Rice currently serves as the CEO of Energy CX, making him a prominent figure in the energy sector. He manages a team of 70 in his current role, according to his website.

The 8th Congressional District, which covers northern Cook County, northern DuPage County and northeast Kane County, is currently represented by U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.). Krishnamoorthi was elected to Congress in 2016 and is now serving his fourth term as Illinois’ 8th District U.S. Representative, according to his website.
