DuPage County Executive Board of the Veterans Assistance Commission met Sept. 27.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

Meeting called to order at 1904 hours at DuPage County Complex by Mayor with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mayor followed by a moment of silence for those departed and those who might be in harm's way.

Roll Call:

Bruce Mayor, Don Sender, Alan Mendelssohn, Joseph Craig, Del Miller, Frank Trout, and Mike Barbour. A quorum was present.

Alternates in attendance: N/A

VAC staff: Steve Fixler, Bill Brophy, Alberto Rangel Mejia, Brittany Michor

Permission to allow the Boards Members on Zoom to fully participate and vote: President – We do have a physical quorum; I will entertain a motion to allow the Board Members on Zoom to fully participate and vote. M – Miller, S – Mendelssohn, M/C

President's Opening Remarks: I plan on holding a ceremony for people who enlist into the military right out of high school. There is a nation-wide program called, “Our Community Salutes” and they have been around for 15 years. There is no program in IL. I will get contacts of the recruiters and they will tell me who enlisted and will be joining the military right after they graduate from high school. I will then set up the ceremony. I am looking at DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Will and DeKalb Counties. I will not do Cook County. I am looking for individuals and organizations along with corporate and local sponsors to support this. At the ceremony, we will have all them ceremoniously be sworn in, maybe by a honoured invited guest and their parents will also be there. More information to follow but let me know what you all think.

Motion was made by Miller and seconded by Trout to accept Superintendent's report. M/C.

County Auditor Expenditure Report: Approve Internal Audit of Accounts Payable for Sep 2023. No report was submitted

Good of the Commission:

- Miller – My wife had a stroke a couple of weeks ago. Today, she got accepted to Marion Joy.

- Barbour – Naperville VFW is hosting the Vietnam Moving Wall, Nov 9 -13. It will be open 24 hours a day. A virtually wall will be on a laptop computer. Naperville Responds is sponsoring this.

- Mayor – Starting in Nov, Hines Food Pantry will accept walk-ins. No more drive throughs.
