Op-ed: Brown: 'I cannot figure out how people do not recognize what a terrorist group is at this point'

I announced I would be running again for State Senate after seeing a post by our current Senator just hours after the attack in Israel. I do not support antisemitism. I support peace and our God given freedoms given to us under our Constitution. An oath of which I held my hand on a Bible many times, swearing to serve and protect as long as I am in office. For the citizens I serve in my area in the State of Illinois.

Yesterday, at a 'petition drive through' event hosted by Heather Brown for State Senator District 25, collecting signatures for myself and other candidates in DuPage County area at Tom's Market in Warrenville, I, Heather Brown, had the most disturbing conversation with an older gentleman.

When speaking with an older gentleman at the front door of Tom's Market in Warrenville, he saw the map I was holding up in my hand, of Senate District 25. He stated, "oh, that area is Karina Villas and Mary or Ma something district"? I stated Maura Hirschauer". "Yes, I met with them the other day and I completely agree with them and I am pro-Hamas with them," stated the gentleman. He continued on stating, "did you hear that Israel killed ten thousand people?" At this point I was still in awe at his statement that he was pro-Hamas and was really taken aback. He continued, "Israel has stolen the land and they are the ones that want the river to the sea."

This press release was issued by 16 Illinois Representatives within 24 hours after Hamas massacred thousands of unarmed Jews in Israel, as well as taking hostages, including Americans. | Heather Brown

Again, I could not believe what I was hearing. I politely told the gentleman that I could no longer proceed with this conversation. He attempted to begin again, and I said "please no more, I cannot speak with you any longer," while holding up my hand to stop the conversation as I walked away. My heart was broken, I could not understand how someone would be aligned with a group that states they want to slaughter all Jews in Israel and here in Illinois, in my own District!

Since 2011, Hamas condemned the killing of Osama Bin Laden, quoted by Ismail Haiyeh, head of Hamas administration in the Gaza Strip. Have the people in the United States forgotten all of our veterans or current military men and women that still serve our great nation today that gave their lives fighting a terrorist group that attacked us on September 11th? I cannot figure out how people do not recognize what a terrorist group is at this point. Mass murdering of innocents! Even our Treasury Department has issued a statement in the link below. If you follow the money, they have ties with ISIS as well.

We have had mass shootings that have taken place in our country in the past couple years that have focused many people on the Democratic side to take away our Second Amendment freedoms. How are people missing the fact that on Oct. 7, Hamas went into Israel killing thousands of innocent people unprovoked at a music festival? This was an an army attack of mass murders. How have they not heard about babies being burned in ovens as their mothers are held down by Hamas to witness the brutal killing of their children, then to be slaughtered themselves. The antisemitic threats going through our country are disheartening. How have we come this far were our own people are constantly attacking one another. This is America! The land of the free. Freedom of religion is within our constitution.

People have always come here for the chance of a better life. My family included came through Ellis Island with one bag and the clothes on their backs. My grandfather fought against the Nazis in WWII along with thousands of others. We do not believe in the extermination of our allies. We do not believe in the extermination of anyone for their skin color or religious beliefs. We do not believe in antisemitic or the support of terrorist organizations that want to kill Americans here in our country or our allies in Israel.

Do people not realize that in our State of Illinois, supporting Hamas is stating you wish J.B. Pritzker was dead, or that Bernie Sanders was dead? How many more people do you know that are of Jewish faith walking among us now terrified. We have had events already in our State of people believing they're standing up for a new cause for Palestine, attacking and barricading students in libraries. Though, they themselves would be slaughtered if they dared to take a step in Palestine. History needs to be taught accordingly and truthfully for our generations to understand just how much freedom they have here in the United States. As well as how much freedom they would not have by supporting antisemitic groups such as Hamas. I believe in a better way, with peace for people that are not linked with Hamas in any way. This group is an Army with its sole goal of eliminating any man, woman or child of Jewish faith. I will never stand idly by as someone could speak with such hatred in their heart.

We have open borders with no idea who is a threat to our citizens. We have an estimated count of 70,000 that came from the Middle East that could pose a threat, and 1.5 million more 'gotaways'. I stated during the last election cycle that I believed in our rules and order, not an open border due to at that time, over 180 different countries entering. This is not a humanitarian crisis for those coming into our country but a crisis for the United States. Even the FBI has issued warning of several cities all around our country including Chicago of possible terrorist attacks.

I urge people to do your research and stop believing false narratives pushed by certain people on the left. Learn our history and everything we've begun to lose in the past couple years. Freedoms in our constitution are now being stripped in new bills being passed in our State and our great nation. Criminals do not follow our laws to acquire our second amendment rights, but our law abiding citizens have to go the extra mile now to register many weapons as of January 2023 which passed in Illinois. Our State will be an easy target for many criminals that still go through the black market to acquire guns or even equipment to attack us on our own soil. We need to keep our State Safe, and protect every citizen at all costs. That is why I am standing up for our citizens again, to fight for our safety and our religious freedom in our State.
