Safe Suburbs PAC founder Kevin Coyne said recent arrests of illegal immigrants in DuPage county is indicative of Chicago's “sanctuary city” status.
Coyne’s comment came after two illegal immigrants were arrested in Oak Brook for Burglary and retail theft.
“This is yet another example of Chicago problems finding their way into the suburbs,” Coyne told Dupage Policy Journal.
“Chicago fully embraced - and to this day refuses to question - its status as a sanctuary city. Their decision to play politics with this issue has encouraged governors from around the country to deluge Chicago with migrants who have promptly swallowed the City's social services.”
“Elected officials everywhere should demand our border be closed, protected, and that illegals be sent back or else incidents such as this one in Oak Brook will inevitably occur more and more often.”
In a scenario that is growing more frequent, two Venezuelan migrants, currently living in Chicago, have been accused of burglary and retail theft in connection with the alleged theft of merchandise valued at over $2,800 from the Oak Brook Macy's store.
The charges stem from an incident in which Oak Brook police officers witnessed the individuals leaving the store with a "happy birthday" bag and a backpack filled with items. After a subsequent traffic stop, law enforcement reportedly found sixteen high-end fragrances and a single pair of pants in their vehicle.
Another pair of Venezuelans were arrested two weeks ago on the same charges in a different incident.
Abel Barrios-Estava and Rafael Mata-Torres, were charged with burglary and retail theft after allegedly stealing over $1,700 worth of merchandise from an OakBrook Macy's store in Illinois.
The incident occurred on October 23, 2023, and both individuals appeared in court, where they were charged with Class 2 Felony Burglary and Class 3 Felony Retail Theft; they are scheduled for arraignment in November, will wear electronic monitoring devices, and are prohibited from entering any Macy's store.
On Nov. 2, the Chicago City Council was prevented from voting on an ordinance that would have created a referendum on the city’s “sanctuary” status.
The contentious meeting was meant to discuss the possibility of adding the referendum to the 2024 primary election ballot to remove Chicago's "sanctuary city" status.
Democrat officials were accused of obstructing the democratic process.
Opponents claimed that Democrats in Springfield pressured Chicago Aldermen to prevent the meeting and that socialists used various tactics, even shutting off the lights in the Council Chamber, to delay proceedings.
The chaotic scene included accusations, debates about quorums, and disagreements about whether citizens should have the right to vote on the city's sanctuary city status.
