A Villa Park man was charged with stalking Gov. J.B. Pritzker this week after being arrested for allegedly throwing rocks at Pritzker's Gold Coast mansion. Adam Dabash, 38, was charged with two felonies for stalking and criminal damage to property.
Illinois State Police officials claim Dabash, who was taken into custody Monday in the Gold Coast, is the same person who left letters addressed to the governor at the Pritzker mansion earlier this year on two separate occasions.
Gov. Pritzker on Tuesday was asked whether he thought Dabash should be held in jail while he awaits trial under the state's new no-cash bail system. Pritzker responded, "Should they be held in custody? They should if they meet the requirements. But let’s say, criminal property damage is one thing. Stalking, which is something that it appears that this person may be charged with. Also, this is not the first time they’ve come by our home. And so I don’t know what the state’s attorney is going to do with regard to that. But I can say that, collectively, those could lead to somebody being held in jail and not let out."
Despite the governor's stance, a Cook County judge denied the state's attorney's office request to detain Dabash before trial. As a result, Dabash was released from custody on electronic monitoring.
