Gina Parrilli is a candidate for a seat on the Westmont Public Library Board of Trustees.
She is one of seven candidates running for four seats.
“I am running to serve my community as [a] resident of Westmont for 20 years,” Parrilli told DuPage Policy Journal.
“I feel the library is a good resource for the community and should be family-friendly focused. I have two adult children who graduated from District 201. The board is comprised of the people in the community. I am fiscally responsible. I am looking forward to serving the community.”
An announcement advertising an opening on the board from 2021 describes its function.
“The Library Board is a seven-member body responsible for determining policy, providing fiscal and facility oversight, and developing long-range plans in order to provide library service to the Village of Westmont residents.”
The Westmont library is currently undergoing renovations. In the most recently released meeting minutes from the Jan. 17 meeting, the board noted its annual budget of $2,091,060.
“(Trustee Beth) Krotiak commented that the budget is running well at 51% spent for the year,” the board’s meeting minutes read.
“(Trustee Heather) Booth and (Board President Jason) Fichtel stated that the budget is usually mostly spent. O'Connor also stated that there are materials orders at the end of fiscal year. Krotiak asked if the underspent funds go to a general fund or a special account. Fichtel answered that it goes to special reserves. Booth commented that some things are intentionally underspent because of timing in the fiscal year. Fichtel offered that some are also not spent just by circumstance. Booth mentioned to the new Board members that we have changed from approving the treasurer's report to filing the report because we file it for audit and rather than approve it.”
Upcoming Westmont Public Library Board of Trustees meetings will be held March 28 and April 16. The May 16 meeting will be the first meeting of the board’s next fiscal year.
