Oak Brook Terrace resident Gail Galivan is running for a seat on the DuPage High School District 88 School Board.

Galivan touted her involvement in research regarding the whole child approach at Children's Memorial Hospital before its acquisition by Northwestern University.

“I do bring that whole child approach from my background, which the state of Illinois partnerships with the county and the health department bringing programs into the school, they're having the whole child model,” she told the DuPage Policy Journal on Monday. “So being versed in that or working on a research project.

“I am a concerned citizen and I have been working with young children and young adults for my whole life. Not so much controversy may be in this district, but there are some in other districts."

Galivan plans to contribute to the community in any way she can. She is keeping a watchful eye out for the children despite knowing District 88 is running well so far.

“Some curriculum people have suggested are not appropriate at school, but that hasn't happened in District 88," she said. "But I do know that there are some opt-outs that were made by school districts, but now school districts may not be able to opt out and only individuals or their parents can opt-out. So it is very confusing; some parents feel it's not appropriate in part and some are happy with it. So it's very confusing."

DuPage High School District 88 oversees 3,948 students in two schools and employs 249 classroom teachers, records from the National Center for Education Statistics show.

Galivan is the founder and executive coach/facilitator and Mindfulness consultant at Inner Alchemy, her Linkedin profile said.

“Gail Galivan is a Certified Medical Tai Chi/Qi Gong Instructor, Mindfulness Meditation Educator, and Traditional Touch Healing Therapist with a background in Integrative Medicine research,” her profile on the Elmwood Park Library website said.
