The Elmhurst University wrestling team dropped a tight CCIW dual meet, 24-25, to Wheaton College (Ill.) Friday evening inside R.A. Faganel Hall.
Both teams traded victories throughout the meet, but the Thunder (5-6, 1-2 CCIW) were able to earn a pair of technical fall victories which ended up being the difference in the conference dual.
Elmhurst (3-5, 1-4 CCIW) earned a pair of victories via fall from Norbert Crecan at 184 and Roberto Pena at heavyweight, while Justin Hames and Zachary Kolb earned victories via decision for the Bluejays.
The Thunder started the evening with a pin in the first minute of the opening match before Hames cut the visitors lead in half with his decision victory. A technical fall victory from the Thunder extended the lead to eight before Kolb's victory again kept Elmhurst in the meet.
After the teams continued to trade match victories, the Bluejays brought the score within two after Crecan's pin at 2:43. Wheaton proceeded to win the next match via technical fall, extending their lead to seven and sealing the victory despite a fall from Pena in the final match of the evening.
