Aurora gun rights activist Mike Speva is opening up about his support for Todd Vandermyde as a voice for gun rights advocates.

Speva also encouraged the community to stop supporting the National Rifle Association and the Illinois State Rifle Association.

“I would urge you to stop donating your money to the NRA and ISRA,” Speva said on Facebook. “Todd Vandermyde is a member of Aurora Sportsmens club and he is part of their 2a defense fund. As the biggest private gun club in Illinois we will be suing Illinois if they pass this bill. Join the fight and please donate to https://aurorasc.wufoo.com/forms/m1aqqf7i1cz9u8t."

HB5855 prohibits several commonly owned types of firearms and magazines. As many as five million firearms and 10 million magazines in the state may be affected if the gun ban becomes law. Gun rights advocates have vowed to seek legal relief should the bill pass. A vote on the bill in the House is expected in the lame-duck session set to begin in early January. State Rep. Denyse Wang Stoneback (D-Skokie) is a co-sponsor of the measure. She is in her final days in the chamber after losing a primary battle earlier this year.

“Don't let his Jeremiah Johnson appearance fool you,"   Morning Answer radio host Dan Proft said on Twitter. "Todd Vandermyde, NRA lobbyist in IL, knows con law and the leg process cold. He humiliates @DenyseRep who is indignantly ignorant of SCOTUS 2A case law. The ILGOP might resolve itself to confront these nitwits like Todd does.”

Vandermyde is a former lobbyist for the NRA. In addition to appearing in person, he has been reporting on HB5855 from his Freedom’s Steel YouTube channel.
