The Bartlett Village board discussed business concerning the Brewster Creek Business Park (BCBP) at its Dec. 20 meeting, including unsuccessful efforts by the public works department to eliminate sewer odors.
Residents and businesses in the business park have complained about odors emanating from effluent sewers and sewer flow from industry users in the business park, according to the video transcript. Public Works committee chair Joe LaPorte told the board that "different filters and chemicals" have been used in attempts to mitigate the smell, but "have not been able to eliminate the odors currently and entirely."
LaPorte told the board the public works department had a resolution to purchase a Vapex odor-control system for Brewster Creek Business Park, which would be installed at the Brewster Creek lift station. LaPorte told the board that the department had researched how other municipalities had handled similar odor problems and found Naperville was using a Vapex odor system "that worked very well for them."
The board voted in favor of the purchase.
The board voted also to enter into a cost-savings agreement with BCBP for pavement improvement in the area, including upgrading roadways and bike paths more than 20 years old, as well as installing a new bike path and pedestrian crossing. The Village will use some TIF funds for the work, according to the video.
