The Village of Hanover Park board met Dec. 1 to go over its budget.
“The 2023 budget anticipates a zero percent property tax increase in the corporate and debt service levy,” Finance director Remy Navarrete told the board. “This is the seventh year that the village has not increased the overall levies.”
The board uploaded a livestream of its public meeting to the village’s YouTube channel.
The budget includes $103,850,997 in revenues and $105,021,235 in expenditures. The operating fund has matching revenues and expenditures expected, and all programs will be continued as well as adding six new employees to the city payroll, three in administrative roles and three firefighters. No resident comments were made.
The board also discussed the 2022 property tax levy. One proposal would increase the levy in special area number 4, Hanover Terrace/Mark Thomas. These areas had to have a special hearing because the board is proposing a levy increase of more than 5% from the previous year. The village proposed a 55.84% increase from the previous year to a total of $34,135 because of the depleting fund balance for the snow services provided to the special area. There were no resident comments.
The board also discussed the property tax levy for the special area number 5, Greenbrook/Tanglewood. The homeowner’s association requested that the village request the maximum amount of levy which equated to $374,587. This was an increase of 38.68% from the previous year. With this income the village will be able to provide concrete repair and drainage services to the community as requested. The association president came to discuss the issues that the community requested to be fixed with the levy money.
The board will meet again at 7 p.m. on Dec. 15 at the Municipal Building in room 214 on 2121 West Lake Street.
