The Elk GroveVillage Board celebrated the winners of the Halloween decorating contest at its Nov. 15 meeting.
Karen Hicks, the president of the Lions Club, revealed the winners of the Halloween decorating contest that the Lions Club helped fund and run in the village.
"Well, we thank all of you that spend the time and effort, it makes Elk Grove a better community because of the effort you put in" Mayor Craig Johnson said. "So thank you all for wanting to do that kind of work."
The first winner was for overall Halloween theme, and it was won by the Melford family on Vine. Their lawn was covered in lights, tombstones, and skeletons.
The second winner was for outstanding scariest display, won by the Gura family on Shelly Court. They had plenty of spooky characters and a maze built into their yard. The family won best overall last year. The third winner was the most kid-friendly yard, and it was won by the Newkirk family on Charing Cross road. Their yard was full of friendly ghosts of all colors.
The fourth winner was not able to attend the meeting, but Lisa Taube at Hawthorne Lane won the best use of condo or apartment space for decorating. The category was created to allow those without a yard to compete.
The Lions Club will be out and ready to judge the upcoming Christmas decorations contest that will start after the tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 25.
