Pekau for Congress has issued the following press release:
October 28, 2022 - Last night, Keith Pekau joined the Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson Tonight to discuss one of the most dangerous laws in the nation, the SAFE-T Act, which was passed by Illinois Democrats. Pekau’s opponent in the race for Congress (IL-06) has zealously defended the bill calling it “necessary criminal justice reform,” and deriding those who oppose it as “racists.” Casten has additionally co-sponsored similar anti-police legislation (the ‘Justice in Policing’ Act) at the federal level.

Key points:
Pekau: The SAFE-T Act will be an absolute disaster for our town. Not only the elimination of cash bail - which we’re already dealing with in a lot of Kim Foxx’s policies, and we’ve seen crime running rampant through the country, and we’ve been very successful with proactive policing policies to keep it tamped down - but more so with trespassing. Under the SAFE-T Act, you won’t be able to put a hand on someone, basically you can only ticket so they can’t remove trespassers from a property. When that starts to happen and people begin to realize that you can’t police, I am very worried about people taking the law into their own hands, and it’s going to lead to anarchy…
What could possibly go wrong with that kind of law?
Carlson: So, basically it criminalizes reasonable behavior by law abiding citizens and the police, and allows criminals to do whatever they want?
Pekau: As I have said time and time again, what this law does is it prioritizes criminals over law-abiding citizens and the police. As you know, I am running for Congress, and my opponent has called anyone who opposes this law a ‘racist, ’ because that’s all they can do. They can’t come up with policies that actually work, that keep people safe. They want to create a situation that makes people unsafe, and really undermine the fabric of America and destroy American values.
