The Burr Ridge village board held a meeting that discussed projects for street improvements.

“I think that crosswalk is definitely something the board has made it clear that as a direction of a priority for staff to tackle immediately, we want to continue to make sure that road is as safe as possible,” Evan Walter, a trustee for the board, said during the meeting. “We've asked for that road to actually be turned over to the village so those decisions can be made even faster on the residents behalf. So I hope to hear progress on that shortly.”

The board provides a Livestream of its public meetings on Youtube.

A neighbor came in to speak to the board about a road construction project they were approving, citing concerns about safety and pedestrian access in the area. He felt that more signage and a stricter and slower speed limit were needed due to the high amount of pedestrian traffic in the area and the number of close calls he and all his neighbors have experienced.

Patch reported a survey confused Burr Ride Mayor Gary Grasso after it showed 18% of 300 locals felt negative towards the conditions of the village’s streets.

"I can't think of a street program that does better than Burr Ridge," the mayor said, Patch reported.

Trustee Francis echoed the neighbor and asked that part of the contract include some signage and crosswalk enhancements for the area on 79th street improvement project. The trustees agreed and planned to order two ordinary signs right away for the street, and continue discussing light up signs and solar powered options for the area.

Patch reported Grasso opposed housing migrants in hotels after 64 migrants from Venezuelans were bussed from Texas to Chicago, a political stunt by Texas Governor Greg Abbot.

Patch reported it asked Grasso to provide proof the board has the power to bar migrants from hotels, but he didn’t respond to Patch.

The village is still discussing options for permanent signage in the area. The road is technically owned by the county who has not responded to any of the issues so far, however they were requesting permits for project and improvement rights. They are interested in finding solar powered or electrical options for the crosswalk signs.
